Governor signs new law prohibiting eviction based on illegal immigration .

Governor Pritzker signed into law a measure prohibiting landlords from reporting or threatening to report a tenant's immigration status in attempts to imtimidate or retaliate against tenants exerecising their rights or as a basis to make them move. The Illinois " Immigrant Tenant Protection Act " was modeled largely after a California law and those found guilty of violating the law can be fined up to $2,000 for each violation. (Senate Bill 1290.)
